Police save woman from drowning in river Jhelum in Sgr | KNO

Srinagar, Jun 06 (KNO): In a courageous and selfless act, a Special Police Officer (SPO) on duty as the driver of SDPO MR Ganj, namely Irfan Hajam, saved the life of a woman who attempted to jump into the river Jhelum near Khankah-e-Moula recently. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was seen jumping into the river in an apparent suicide attempt. Immediate efforts were made by nearby volunteers to rescue her, but they were unable to reach her in time, a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reads. Upon the directions of SDPO MR Ganj, SPO Irfan Hajam displayed exceptional bravery by responding to the unfolding situation in the nick of time. Without hesitation, he jumped into the river and rescued the woman, bringing her to safety. She was immediately provided with first aid and later shifted to a nearby hospital for further medical care. This heroic action of the police officer averted a tragic incident. Authorities have commended his valour and professionalism. This incident highlights the critical role of the J&K Police in safeguarding lives and maintaining public safety, even under unpredictable and life-threatening circumstances.
